US Atomic Energy Commission

The US Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) was the predecessor of the US Department of Energy. The AEC was an independent, civilian agency of the federal government with statutory responsibility for atomic energy matters. A body of five persons appointed by the US President directed the agency.
