Dr. Kodama was born and raised in Hiroshima prefecture. He joined ABCC in 1974 as a physician.

After ABCC became RERF in 1975, Dr. Kodama served as Clinical Studies Dept. Chief, Epidemiology Dept. Chief, Chief Scientist, and RERF Biosample Center Director.
