RERF researcher Arikuni Uchimura awarded Research Encouragement Prize by Japanese Environmental Mutagen and Genome Society
This fiscal year, Arikuni Uchimura, assistant department chief of RERF’s Department of Molecular Biosciences and chief of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, was selected as the recipient of the Research Encouragement Prize from the Japanese Environmental Mutagen and Genome Society (JEMS).
The award was based on Dr. Uchimura’s research regarding “de novo*1 germline mutations using whole genome sequencing.” Using whole-genome analysis of mice, the study aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying mutations and their hereditary processes between parents and offspring. The findings are significant in that they will lead to the establishment of new investigative methods in human gene research, and further progress in the study is highly anticipated.
The award received by Dr. Uchimura is great encouragement for RERF’s young researchers. RERF will continue to make progress in research on the medical effects of radiation and related diseases for peaceful purposes, striving to contribute to the health and welfare of the A-bomb survivors and the improvement of the health of all humankind.
About the Research Encouragement Prize
The Japanese Environmental Mutagen and Genome Society established the Research Encouragement Prize to grant recognition to young researchers who have accomplished outstanding research in the fields of environmental mutagenesis and genome science. The award aims to encourage young scientists to engage in further research and contribute to progress in these fields.
