Announcement of Agreement on Research Collaboration with Nagasaki University Hospital
The Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) is currently planning a study to understand the possible effects of survivors’ atomic bomb radiation exposure on the health of their children at the genomic level. As part of this research initiative, RERF aims to establish a system to provide appropriate genetic counseling and medical support for participants and their families who wish to receive feedback if important genetic information that could affect their health management is found in their genomic data.
To this end, on May 26, 2025, RERF and Nagasaki University Hospital entered into an Agreement on Research Collaboration. The agreement enables a framework linking, when necessary, appropriate medical care with research findings, thereby providing a greater sense of security to atomic bomb survivors and their children and a strong network of support for study participants.
Under this collaborative framework, RERF will continue to collect scientific knowledge contributing to the health of A-bomb survivors and their children. At the same time, we will persist in study preparations with care and integrity, while seeking the understanding and cooperation of the public for this research.
Please note that on April 24, 2025, RERF signed a similar agreement on research collaboration with Hiroshima University Hospital.
