Press Conference Held to Announce Launch of “Trio Study Using Genome Analysis”

On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) held a press conference announcing the launch of its Trio Study Using Genome Analysis. The in-person press conference was held at both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki Laboratories, with the two venues connected by a live, online broadcast system. During the press conference, RERF Chair Kenji Kamiya and Arikuni Uchimura, Assistant Chief of RERF’s Molecular Biosciences Department, presented an overview of the study and responded to questions from attending members of the media. Also available for comment were Vice Chair Preetha Rajaraman and Executive Director Kazunori Kodama.

RERF has spent approximately 10 years preparing for the Trio Study Using Genome Analysis, receiving guidance from leading experts in Japan and overseas. The study aims to accumulate fundamental knowledge for better understanding of whether parental radiation exposure affects the DNA sequence (genome) in children. The findings are expected to contribute to future research in this field. The study will be conducted in accordance with the highest scientific and ethical standards, while giving top priority to the wishes of participants and strictly protecting personal information.
