Young leaders from three countries visited RERF to deepen their understanding of research and history

On May 11, 2025, as part of the U.S.-ROK-Japan Young Trilateral Leaders (YTL) Regional Workshops hosted by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Consulate General in Osaka-Kobe, 36 participants, including young leaders from Japan, the U.S., and South Korea, visited the RERF Hiroshima Laboratory. This visit was part of a four-day trip to Hiroshima, which focused on Japan-U.S.-South Korea relations, conflict analysis, and peacebuilding.

Twenty-six young leaders specializing in fields such as international relations, politics, economics, global health, and conflict resolution visited RERF’s historical campus in Hijiyama park. Representatives from the U.S. government and faculty members from Mason Korea (George Mason University) and Soka University were also present. RERF’s Vice Chair, Dr. Rajaraman, explained the long-term health effects of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki from both scientific and historical perspectives, including key findings from RERF’s research and studies.

The participants asked insightful questions and showed interest, viewing the topics from various perspectives, including science, history, and peacebuilding. This visit was an opportunity to enrich participants’ experiences in Hiroshima and reaffirm RERF’s commitment to achieving a peaceful future and health for all through international cooperation.
