About
Dr. Gil Latz currently serves as External Director at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation. He has over 40 years of experience in the fields of international education and non-profit organization activity in Japan and the United States. His academic appointments include Portland State University (Oregon), Indiana University, The Ohio State University, and Waseda University. Responsibilities at these institutions include teaching, research, community engagement, and administrative leadership. In these roles, he has a particular interest in student and faculty research and study initiatives between Japan and the U.S.
Administrative leadership appointments at the national and international level were added to Dr. Latz’s teaching, research, and service portfolio from 2015, when he became Board Member of the Association of International Education Administrators. Dr. Latz was elected President of AIEA in 2016. Also in 2016, he commenced serving as Senior Associate for Internationalization, American Council on Education, where he advised over two dozen U.S. universities on internationalization strategies. From 2021 to 2024, he served as an elected Executive Committee member, Association of Public and Land Grant Universities (APLU), Commission on International Initiatives (2021-24; Executive Committee Chair, 2022-24), contributing to efforts by APLU to prioritize the role of global engagement in pursuit of the public mission of institutions of higher education in North America.
Dr. Latz currently holds the appointment of professor at Waseda University, and as Leadership Fellow, Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
He is a 2025-26 Fellow in the University of Chicago Leadership and Society Initiative.
