RERF–Hiroshima University Hold Joint Symposium

On September 11, 2026, the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) held a joint symposium with Hiroshima University.

The symposium was held ahead of RERF’s scheduled relocation to the Hiroshima University Kasumi Campus in fiscal year 2027, to provide an opportunity for researchers from both organizations to learn more about each other’s work and help create the foundation for future collaboration. Approximately 200 researchers and other participants from RERF and Hiroshima University were in attendance.

The symposium featured presentations on current research being conducted by scientists from both institutions under three themes — Genome; Epidemiology/Data/Artificial Intelligence; and Biobanking. Representing RERF for each of these themes were Kengo Yoshida, Assistant Department Chief, Department of Molecular Biosciences (Genome); Alina V. Brenner, Senior Scientist, Department of Epidemiology (Epidemiology/Data/AI); and Osamu Tanabe, Director, Biosample Research Center (Biobanking). During the question-and-answer sessions that followed the presentations, researchers from both institutions shared insights from their own fields of expertise and engaged in lively discussions.

The symposium provided a valuable opportunity for enhanced research exchange and collaboration between the two organizations after RERF makes the move to Hiroshima University’s Kasumi Campus.
