8th Meeting of the Scientific and Ethics Committee for the Clinical Study of the F1 Offspring of A-bomb Survivors Held

The 8th Meeting of the Scientific and Ethics Committee for the Clinical Study of the F1 Offspring of A-bomb Survivors was held on Wednesday, November 28. At the meeting, reports were announced on the progress being made in the Clinical Study of the F1 Offspring of A-bomb Survivors (F1 Clinical Study).

The F1 Clinical Study aims to investigate the relationship between parental A-bomb radiation exposure and prevalence of disease in adulthood among the offspring of atomic bomb survivors and, above all, to contribute to the health and welfare of each study participant through health examinations provided at RERF. The study is also tasked with the collection and preservation of urine and blood samples for research on genetic effects of radiation.

Starting with a mail survey in 2000, the study has made steady progress, with the third round of examinations nearly completed and the fourth round recently getting underway. RERF will continue to make efforts to improve the participation rate with the aim of maintaining a study of high scientific reliability on the association between parental radiation exposure and disease prevalence among the A-bomb survivors’ children.
