On August 6, eight diplomatic representatives from seven countries who had attended the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony earlier in the day paid a visit to the Hiroshima Laboratory of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF).

The visitors were welcomed by RERF directors and others, with Chairman Kamiya providing an overview of RERF’s history—from the establishment of the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC) to the present day—as well as its major research findings and future research priorities. After that, the visitors were guided by staff of RERF’s Public Relations and Publications Office through exhibits and research facilities at the Laboratory.

The participants showed a strong interest in the health effects of radiation and RERF’s research activities, asking a wide range of questions. The visit also provided RERF with a valuable opportunity to help deepen the guests’ understanding of the history of the organization’s research as well as its current activities.
