Hiroshima University

A signing ceremony and press conference on “Agreement on Education and Research Cooperation,” aimed at promoting comprehensive research cooperation between RERF and Hiroshima University, were held on July 28, 2006, at the Hiroshima University Kasumi Campus’s Hirohito Kaikan.

The agreement will further strengthen collaboration between RERF and Hiroshima University, while taking advantage of the characteristics of both institutions in the following areas:

1) Education, research, and emergency medical care of radiation exposed
2) Communication among researchers, staff, and others
3) Exchange of research materials, publications, and research results

Great contributions from this partnership are expected in the development of education and research in the radiation field, both domestically and internationally.

Nagasaki University

A signing ceremony and press conference on “Agreement on Education and Research Cooperation,” aimed at promoting comprehensive research cooperation with Nagasaki University, was held on November 10, 2006, in the meeting room of the Nagasaki University Secretariat.

The agreement is hoped to establish a cooperative relationship that will contribute to the development of research into radiation effects and radiation medicine, both domestically and internationally, by focusing on further improvements in education and research in the radiation field, training of researchers and physicians, as well as development of radiological injury medicine and radiation exposure medical care.

University of Washington, USA, and Biostatistics Center, Kurume University

An agreement regarding cooperation on education and research among RERF, the University of Washington, USA, and the Biostatistics Center at Kurume University was signed on November 29, 2006. RERF and the two institutions have held several joint meetings in Japan and the United States to cooperate in education and research of mainly epidemiological and statistical studies on the health effects of ionizing radiation exposure.

A new radiation research partnership between RERF and the University of Washington was signed on September 16, 2017. This fruitful relationship has involved students undergoing training at RERF and is anticipated to generate numerous presentations and publications related to radiation epidemiology. It has also become a rich resource for recruitment of RERF scientific staff.

Fukushima Medical University

A signing ceremony and press conference for a partnership agreement aimed at building closer cooperative relations with Fukushima Medical University in the fields of education, research, and public health were held on August 12, 2011, in one of Fukushima Medical University’s conference rooms.

On the same day, Fukushima Medical University also signed a partnership agreement with the National Institute of Radiological Sciences.

Following the Great East Japan Earthquake, on March 11, 2011, as well as the subsequent nuclear accident at the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, RERF and Fukushima Medical University, together with Hiroshima University and Nagasaki University, with which RERF has already signed agreements, will monitor the health of Fukushima citizens with cooperation from throughout Japan. Hereinafter, RERF will secure state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic systems in preparation for any future emergencies.
